Description

Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral is the undisputed top spot in sightseeing as an impressive landmark of Vienna. Every year around three million visitors come to St. Stephen’s Square to admire St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna.

The mighty cathedral towers 140 meters into the sky with several towers. Romanticism and Gothic are reflected in the richly decorated interior and exterior walls. The Romanesque Church of St. Stephen  was consecrated in 1147 . Alterations and structural extensions were constantly being carried out, for example with late Romanesque and Baroque influences.

In 1450 the construction of the north tower began . St. Stephen's Cathedral survived adversities such as Turkish sieges, conflagrations and wars almost undamaged for 800 years . Until in the last weeks of World War II a fire reduced the cathedral to rubble and ashes. But due to the commitment and love of the citizens for the stone landmark, St. Stephen's Cathedral was able to be reopened 7 years laterand is therefore also a symbol of reconstruction in Austria.
