Description

Third Man Museum (Third Man Museum). In the immediate vicinity of the beautiful Naschmarkt there is an extensive collection of original exhibits from the classic film "The Third Man", which was filmed in Vienna in 1948.

And there is an impressive documentation on the historical background of the film with originals from the Vienna occupation period (1945-1955). It all comes together to provide an unforgettable glimpse into life and history in post-war Vienna.

13 rooms with 2,500 original exhibits and the film zither by Anton Karas can be seen. His film music went around the world and triggered a veritable zither boom in the 1950s. Four hundred playable covers of the "Harry Lime theme" give a sense of how popular the music was at the time.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • “The Third Man” was first shown on such projectors in 1950. A film that shows Vienna like no other - a city destroyed by war and occupied by the Allies.
  • The museum has original scripts, cameras used on the set and little Hansel's hat.
  • The Third Man Museum also regularly presents zither concerts: the musician Cornelia Mayer plays musical highlights from the classic film “The Third Man” live on stage
